Big Mouth!

Some people think i'm a beer snob. I guess that's cause i usually order a craft brew (and especially an NC craft brew if it's available) when i'm out, and i make my own beer, when water's available. I imagine things like this help perpetuate that impression.

But i will quite happily drink a PBR, a greenie, or even a Bud Light if that's what you put in front of me. We went through 4 cases of Coronitas at our wedding in September. (Coffee's a different story. I am a coffee snob.)

So last night at the Man Cave™ i had no problems when a 6 of Mickey's Big Mouths made an appearance. I love the bottle caps.

I especially love the rebus puzzles on the inside of the bottle caps. I love them so much i'm going to be posting one each Saturday for the foreseeable future as a treat for you, dear reader. This seemed the obvious choice to start things off.

In fact, it was so obvious it was essentially a

Enjoy.

  • Cool caps! I've never had a Mickey's, is it any good? And that's from someone who happily drinks Corona Light, most non-hoppy micros, Guiness, Harp, Bass, Old Speck, etc., but wouldn't drink a Bud if she was dying of thirst. (Because it wouldn't help that, anyways.)

  • i would not call Mickey's a "great beer," and if you won't drink a Bud, you may not care for this one. But i operate on the theory that there's no such thing a bad beer.

  • As I recall--and it's a stretch--the attraction was the oversized opening, or "Big Mouth," which facilitated rapid consumption of said beer. Is that still the case?

Mickey's Big Mouth--the official bonfire-in-the-woods beer of West Virginia high school students, circa 1980-83. Crank up the Foghat, man!

What's next? Utica Club? Iron City? Genesee Cream Ale?

  • You know, I really did read the post. Jeez...

    Crank up the Foghat, man!

  • This Mickey's talk is giving me bad flashbacks from a high school party where I definitely 'over-served' myself with this beer. The aftermath was dreadful. I haven't gone near it since. In fact, I didn't even know it was still made. Wow.

  • Actually, i just got in from a beer tasting with a few other bloggers. I'll have a picture tomorrow of all the good stuff, and one not so good sample, that we went through.

Utica Club, IC and Genny Cream are all worthwhile beers that i have enjoyed on many occasions.

Utica Club morphed into Saranac, which brews excellent beer in a number of styles, but the cheap lager is also still available.

Maybe for our next tasting we can do cheap northeast lagers.

  • I'd like to learn more about that Quittin Time beer, which I learned about from nicomachus

I doubt that brand is still around.

  • This is about the most info i can find on the QT label. It was made for a brief period from around 78 through 1990 by the Goetz brewing company and appears to have been distributed exclusively through Quik-Trip markets, which i'm guessing was/is a 7/11 type chain.

  • The Man Cave. Is that a new venue in town ? Do they serve this fine malt liquor on tap ?

  • 1 - you can't be anonymous at the Man Cave

2 - no taps. that's where the bottle caps come from.

  • omg. those beer caps look very familiar. the man cave. i think i was blindfolded and led there friday. i made the rookie mistake of mixing wine (from a dinner party earlier), beer, a mickey's and a tequila shot (that my girlfriend insisted i take!). i really hope the mickey's didn't push me over the edge. it was the first hangover i've had before retiring for bed!

  • Seriously, what is the second one? We need help.
