Well thank you! I appreciate your shout out. When I walk around here and think of things I want to write, I wonder, "but why would anyone in Durham give a crap?" Answer: I will do my best to write stories that are (a) interesting to me and (b) perhaps of general interest.
I met some folks this weekend who told me things I didn't expect. Some will hit the blog within the next 24 hours.
I wonder, sometimes, whether there are just as many interesting stories in Durham as I'm running into in Merida? Maybe no because there is more socio-economic diversity in Mexico. Maybe yes because there are infinite stories anywhere.
So why don't I run into as many "odd" people in Durham as I do in Mexico? I suspect it's simply because when I'm in Durham, I happily spend much of my time with people I already know and I like, or by myself. Down here, I can't help but spend a lot of time with strangers, and that opens a lot of possibilities.
