Who gives a shit?

I mean, really. Who cares who John McCain did or didn't get it on with 8 years ago? It's just a distraction from his contemporary nonsense, not to mention that it keeps us from remembering that the Protect America Act has expired, and George Bush can't protect us anymore.

  • Mainly it makes me wonder who, and why, they dragged this old story about McCain out of cold storage right now.

Reeks of a bit of a GOP take-down. Certain segments of the party apparently are none too happy with McCain.

Besides, I never realized Corky Sherwood Forest from Murphy Brown was a lobbyist now.

  • I feel so cold and alone, without the federal government able to secretly and indiscriminately grab every single email, webpage load, text message, IM, blog post, blog comment and phone call that I make and/or receive.

BTW, I think all legislation should be titled in a jingoistically-expository manner -- Sarbanes-Oxley should have been called, the "Oops, we neglected our oversight role, but now we're going to make sure that America's corporate accountants are the best ever Act"

  • Greg Sargent at the Horse's Mouth today basically said, if this were a Democratic nominee, all of us on the left would be crying foul. And I agree -- this is the kind of stupid, innuendo-based fishing expedition that we all hate the media for. The fact that it takes McCain down a notch doesn't excuse it, to me.

  • michael - i haven't had a chance to read Greg's post yet, although Josh & DK over at TPM seem to think there's a reason to keep looking at this, at least from the "she's a lobbyist" angle.

i actually think it's worse than the "we would be pissed if they did this to a Dem" angle, for reasons i hope to be able to write about later, after i crawl out from the hell-hole that is my inbox today.

Oh, and to clarify, since i think my initial post was a little sloppy, the point about the PAA not being extended was that Congress called Bush's bluff and nothing happened. Pouty Boy went to Africa after threatening to stay in Washington holding his breath until he turned blue, and nothing happened. Democrats acted like a majority party, defended the Constitution, the world isn't coming to an end, and nobody's talking about it. That ain't right.

  • It's more a matter that McCain doesn't learn from mistakes and won't take advice....kind of like the present appointee to the office he seeks. You know, doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result.
