Duke Blue Devil
Did i mention i went to my first b-ball game of the season on Monday night, Duke women v Maryland? It was a good one. Duke, up by 11 at the half, held on for a 3 point victory. I think Maryland actually took the lead by a point with about 5 minutes to play.
It was also my first look at the revised Duke Blue Devil. His face is narrower and more angular. I guess it's supposed to be more sinister, but i think it just looks more ethnic, if you know what i mean and i think you do. And what is up with the fake spandex muscles? That's just silly. Unfortunately, i didn't bring my camera, and i can't find a picture of the new guy on line anywhere. for you to look at. Maybe next time.

Check out those fake biceps. I really think they need to rig up a harness and have him fly across the court during one of the incessant TV timeouts.

I agree wholeheartedly, the new devil is terrible! Much too serious-looking for college basketball and the eyes just freak me out.
Steve, by the way, I was one of the crazies standing behind you with a chef hat on.

Cool! I can't imagine having seats that good on a regular basis. We were a little terrified of getting a player in our laps but the camera guy promised to run some interference.

duke women's basketball is one of the underappreciated bargains in Durham; all of the thrill of Cameron at a fraction of the price. A tip: the general admission tickets allow you into the bleachers, provided you go early and don't mind standing. We have faculty tix for $70/yr., which includes football season tix as well.
I would think the lefties here would love the new mascot, given their general antipathy towards religion. One of my fraternity brothers played the mascot in the 90s and hated the cutesie Devil, as did I.
I'd be even happier if it were somehow Satanic.
