A new record

Almost 60 hours without checking email or local news while i was down at the beach celebrating an early Mardi Gras.

  • A Connecticut woman was mauled close-to-death by her friend's pet chimp.

On a related note, Durham City Council meets next month on whether or not to allow pet chimps.

  • How did it feel? Any obvious withdrawal symptoms? I wonder if there were damaging long-term effects...

  • yeah - read about the drug dealers this afternoon. Three assault weapons, and out on a $25K secured bond. That's why i don't talk to may neighbors about their dogs anymore.

Chimps - almost blogged about that. Here's the line that caught my eye: Police said that Travis was agitated earlier Monday and that Herold had given him the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in some tea. Police said the drug had not been prescribed for the 14-year-old chimp.

In humans, Xanax can cause memory loss, lack of coordination, reduced sex drive and other side effects. It can also lead to aggression in people who were unstable to begin with, said Dr. Emil Coccaro, chief of psychiatry at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

"Xanax could have made him worse," if human studies are any indication, Coccaro said.
What the fuck? It's not candy, you know.

Doubt there were any long term effects. I'm back to normal, i think. I did cheat a little bit and send an email out to a few folks when i got back last night, but i avoided my inbox until this morning.
