Worst gig ever

Got an email from a friend announcing that, among several others, long-time WNEW-FM dj Scott Muni was being posthumously inducted into a broadcasters Hall of Fame in New York.

Scott's bio included this line:
Scott Muni began his broadcasting career in the United States Marine Corps in 1950, when he read "Dear John" letters over Radio Guam.

That had to suck.

  • Flip Wilson had a stand-up bit about an idiot corporal who assisted the camp chaplain.

One day, the chaplain asked the corporal to let Private Anderson know that his mother had died. So the corporal got on the PA and said "Attention Company B! Private Anderson, your mother just dropped dead!"

The chaplain let the corporal know that his method wasn't the best, but let him try again the next day when the mother of Private Johnson passed away.

The corporal returned to the PA. "Attention Company B! All privates with mothers, take one step forward. Johnson: be cool."

I listened to this routine on my dad's 8-track.
