Deep thought

Now that we're going to have the awesomest new Total Streets mixed use development down in th south end of the county generating all kinds of new tax revenues, maybe our County Commissioners will fund the Animal Control Department at a level that will allow them to respond to roaming dog packs before 8:30 am and after 5:30 pm, and on weekends.

Oh, who am i kidding? Providing basic services doesn't seem to be part of the BoCC's world view.

  • Are you saying that roaming packs of dogs don't respect working hours?

  • They all have Barkberries. They can be productive all hours of the day and night.

    Hee-hee-hee...

Animal Control getting more funding...LOL...good one, Barry.

  • oddly enough, i spotted an AC truck on Glendale this morning around 7:15am. it was such an unheard of sight that i had to stop in the midst of my coffee pouring to make sure i was seeing correctly

  • Maybe they're catching the latest dog pack in our neighborhoods?

  • they did appear to stop at the end of Bennett Court, which is unfortunately, where we seem to always see something that needs their attention

  • Wouldn't be surprised if that's where the latest dog pack calls home. They definitely looked as though they lived somewhere, and were not just strays looking for food.

I'd bet money the have an owner who just turns them out at 6 in the morning so he doesn't have to pick up after them.

  • A peripheral comment, but I am still waiting for Barry to post a story about the Durham PD arresting some serious thugs after a routine speeding stop on I-85. You know, the kind they could be doing all over Durham with greater frequency....

  • Yeah - big discussion about that on my neighborhood listserv over night.

Couldn't find any news stories this morning to link to, and got a bit caught up in my work day to do any more digging.

Did get this response from Durham PD earlier today, though:
Cpl. Piatt attempted to stop a gold saturn for speeding on I-85 south. The occupants slowed down to below the speed limit and started throwing drugs and a gun out the window. The vehicle was later seen on Washington by DCSO who attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled and they were unable to catch up. The vehicle was located a short time later on Green near Washington.

A perimeter was set up and K9 Officer Gooch and Kimbo apprehended one suspect near Clark St. A Tact Officer located another suspect in the area. Officer Gooch and Officer Meade continued tracking and converged on a tree that contained two suspects hiding up in the branches. A 9mm gun and several bags of cocaine were recovered. These were likely the men arrested near Knox St.
